MILE HIGH MIDDLE SCHOOL CYCLING TEAMBuilding Strong Mind, Body, and Character

...while also creating a lifelong love of cycling.

Braking, shifting, bike/body separation, cornering, mountain trail riding, and more.

A fun way to prepare for upcoming races while also building muscular and cardiovascular strength.

Focusing on community, respect for others and the outdoors, inclusivity, and equity.

Optional: Competitive mountain biking courses at Prescott, Flagstaff, and Phoenix.

We strive to build strong mind, body, and character through the lifelong sport of mountain biking, including:

  • Improving skills and building confidence through instruction offered by certified youth cycling coaches, with each rider pushing themselves to new achievements they never thought possible.
  • Having fun and building community by fostering new friendships and strengthening existing ones through shared adventures and challenges.
  • Promoting inclusivity and equality on a team where everyone feels welcomed and supported and “nobody rides the bench.”
  • Instilling respect for other people, oneself, and nature.

We strongly adhere to these values and strive to ensure that the lessons our student-athletes learn alongside their friends and coaches will carry on for the rest of their lives.

The team is open to any student in Prescott, Arizona who will be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade next school year and will attend:

  • Mile High Middle School (MHMS)
  • Granite Mountain School (GMS)
  • Homeschooled within the Prescott Unified School District (PUSD) boundaries

All riding abilities are welcome and there are no tryouts.

Pre-Season: June

We will be holding several skills clinics and casual trail rides in June.

Regular Season Practices: July through October

Regular practices are held in the late afternoon on Mondays and Wednesdays as well as occasional Saturday mornings. Each practice will include a mixture of skills instruction, trail riding, fun games, and positive sportsmanship.

Optional Races:

Racing is optional and includes four events in September and October. See and click on “Race” menu for more info/dates.

Team Photos:

Individual and group photos will be scheduled for one of our practices and those digital images will be provided at no charge to student-athletes, their parents, and the school yearbook.

We also host some group camping at several races, a few special guests speakers at practices, a kickoff BBQ, a trail workday where both our student riders and coaches learn more about trail development and maintenance, several field trips to nearby riding regions like Sedona and the Black Canyon Trail, and an end-of-season celebration.

The following fees are mandatory for all student riders:

  • $125 registration with Arizona Cycling Association (ACA), must be completed before attending practice
  • $110 school sports fee, payable directly to Mile High Middle School in August so that you can try out the team before school starts prior to submitting this fee
  • OPTIONAL $100 race series package for any student wanting to participate in interscholastic competition (4 races, not required, may also register for individual races)

Financial assistance programs are available for both fees. Please contact us for more info.

Early registration is highly encouraged since the team size may be capped at any time based on factors like coach-to-student-athlete ratios. Returning riders will be emailed a registration passcode in early April when student registration opens. New riders should contact us so that a passcode can be provided after reviewing team expectations, including the requirements detailed above.
